The Swan Island Peace Convergence aims to put nonviolently jam a spoke in the wheel of the Australian War machine. It also aims to build a community that shares ideas of peace and resistance that can carry on after this action.
Sunday 22nd September – “Community Day”
The week will start off with a community BBQ lunch (BYO), followed by a Peace March.
Sunday night there will be an update on Swan Island and on the Afghanistan War, including the SAS’s continuing role in Afghanistan.
Monday 23rd September – “Nonviolent Direct Action Training”
The theory and practice of nonviolent direct action and civil disobedience will be explored through workshops. For those people new to direct action the practicalities of dealing with police, arrests and courts will be covered.
Tuesday 24th September – “Disrupt the War Machine – Blockade the Base!”
Take part in a day of creative, peaceful action to blockade Swan Island Military base. If you don’t want to risk being arrested there are plenty of people needed for support roles and the inevitable court solidarity.
Wednesday 25th September “Blockade the Base! We are not disturbing the Peace – we are the disturbing the war!
Day two or our efforts to jam a spoke in the wheel at the home of the SAS. Once again the day will involve both direct action and court solidarity for those arrested.
